AUTHOR STUDY WITH
KWAME ALEXANDER
Author Study is an interactive, virtual author visit series that brings Kwame Alexander and other notable authors into classrooms throughout the school year.
Author Study makes virtual author visits easy, affordable, ongoing, and most of all, fun.
And while it’s fun for students, Author Study supports literacy learning goals. Most importantly, it celebrates the power of words and individual expression.

BECAUSE KIDS WHO READ MORE
ACHIEVE MORE
Research shows that interaction with authors boosts students’ motivation to read and write on their own. And we all know that kids who read more, achieve more – across every subject area. Reading for fun boosts vocabulary and background knowledge, reinforces comprehension strategies, and engages critical thinking.
We’re not only focused on test scores, though. Young people who read for fun just 20 minutes per day show lower instances of mental health crises, healthier sleep patterns, and stronger capacity for empathy. Reading for fun strengthens overall wellbeing!

Benefits to Students
We make reading irresistible!
Young people who read for fun just 20 minutes per day show lower instances of mental health crises, healthier sleep patterns, and stronger capacity for empathy. Reading for fun strengthens overall wellbeing! And Author Study ignites the spark that keeps middle school readers reading.
Guest authors will appeal to students in grades 3-9 (ages 8-15), but all ages are welcome to attend.
WHAT DO I GET?
During every 45-minute virtual livestream, students learn directly from celebrated, published authors. Each session includes...
-
A book talk and read-aloud from a favorite book
-
A brief writing craft lesson - with a handout emailed to registrants before and after
-
A conversation with a special guest author (sometimes two!), with time for questions from students
-
A live Q&A session with Kwame, taking select questions from attendees in the chat
-
Downloadable lesson plans and student handouts

Registered attendees receive access to the recording, too... which helps overcome scheduling challenges and unexpected disruptions.
